Tiefling Bard – Dnd Character Commission

I recently drew this Tiefling Bard for a Dnd Character Commission in Sydney, Australia. I love drawing Dnd characters because they really stretch the imagination! When I’m not drawing, you can usually find me playing dnd or Larping, in fact, I am writing and illustrating an entire webcomic, Larp Lady!

Are you looking for an artist to illustrate your custom Dnd character? I have a few slots left for commissions!

10 Days Travel Comic

10 days is a travel comic I created 10 years ago, but one that I love looking back on!

This travel comic helped define my illustration style, before I even knew I had one. And although I cringe at how easily I fell in love back then, I can’t help but remember the amount of effort that went in to this very simple and short comic.

At the time, I was teaching kindergarten in Thailand, and drew everything with paper and pencil. I had to find a scanner in the village I lived in, which was in itself a nearly impossible task. I finally found a scanner at a little old ladies pharmacy/grocery/laundry shop. It cost me around 10 Baht per scan, that I put onto a thumbdrive, then sent to my brother (who is a graphic designer) to help me put together as a proper comic. He then sent it back to me for me to print and give to my boyfriend at the time.

It was definitely a labour of love, and one that I wish I would have kept pursuing continuously because my initial idea was to draw comics about all of my travels abroad.

Back then, web comics weren’t really a thing. Almost nobody I knew even read comics except for the nerds I knew in Portland.

There was no Instagram.

Facebook was pretty much just for college kids.

The Internet was much lighter, and I was much much more naive when it came to love.

Anywho, I hope you enjoy!

Why I want to be a Children’s Book Illustrator

Hello and welcome to my blog! I thought I would introduce myself to new readers and share why I want to be a Children’s Book Illustrator and Author.

Since I was a little girl, I have been writing and drawing children’s picture books. From “The Powerful Pumpkin” aka the superhero pumpkin who saved baby vegetables from sugary treats I wrote when I was 6, to the story of the last dragon who lived in an oak tree and made friends with knights instead of fighting them I wrote in middle school, I have always loved both writing and drawing!

However, life seemed to get in the way of my childhood dreams, and my ambitions of becoming a children’s book illustrator became just that…a dream.

But like many people, 2020 was a year of a lot of soul searching and finding out what really matters in life. I realised that my childhood dreams could become reality if I really focused on manifesting them. I started research how to be a children’s book illustrator guides, became a SCBWI member, joined a weekly critique group and even started my own book club. I also tried (and failed) to self-publish my first ABC children’s book. I bit off far more than I could chew and set unrealistic deadlines for myself, but hey! I learned something invaluable – that failing is a part of the journey!

I am very excited to start my journey as a Children’s Book Illustrator, starting with the CYA conference this weekend. I have been wanting to join this conference for years and finally invested in this for myself! So wish me good luck, and I will try to share my review of the children’s book conference once it’s finished!

Thank you for reading!

Forest Friends Children’s Book Illustrations

Last week I finished painting my Forest Friends series, children’s book illustrations inspired by the forests and critters of Oregon. There have been so many wildfires in Oregon that many of the forests I grew up in have been burnt down. So I have decided to donate 10% of sales of these Forest Friends prints to Umpqua Wildlife Rescue. They are a grassroots type organisation so I am really happy to support them and all they do to help rescue our forest friends that are in need!

You can purchase prints here.
